A bridge between youngsters and skill development organisations is the youth skill development festival.

On Wednesday, 25th May 2022, the chief minister of TN, Mr. M.K. Stalin grabbed many eyeballs when he inaugurated the first state level youth skill development festival in Chennai. To help the youths get information about job opportunities and skill development etc, this youth skill development festival would be conducted by joining hands with several government departments and private sector in all the 388 panchayat unions belonging to TN. An amount of Rs 194 crores would be spent on this.

It must be noted that the first youth skill development festival was organised at the popular Queen Mary’s College in Chennai. It had counselling halls for the youths and counters for women self help groups to sell their products etc. It is learnt that youngsters who wished to take part in the festivals in other parts of the state would be able to register here.

Point is that at the counselling centres experts belonging to the fields like electronics, IT, IT enabled services, banking, finance, readymade dress designing, insurance, jewellery, handicraft etc would guide the youngsters. The CM of Tamil Nadu inspected the stalls that were put up by the SHG and interacted with the youths gathered at the counselling centres. Skill development training certificates and appointment orders for the youths were provided.

Former CM of TN Mr. M. Karunanidhi established TNSDM or TN Skill Development Mission in the year 2010 to provide skill development training for the youngsters is well known to us. At that time, TNSDM was first ever in the entire India. As an extension of TNSDM, the current TN government has been implementing Naan Mudhalvan. The superb piece of information is that every year special skills of 5lakhs youths would be identified and training would be given to enhance their skills.
