Constructed at a cost of Rs 8 crores, Aavin central laboratory was inaugurated in Madhavaram Aavin Park by the CM of Tamil Nadu Mr. M.K. Stalin yesterday. It is known that Aavin was established in 1958 and is a state government cooperative
It is superb to note that this new lab was built in a mammoth area of 17422 acres of land. It has state of the art technical facilities like triple quadrupole liquid chromatography with mass spectrometer, gas chromatography with mass spectrometer and inductively coupled mass spectrometer. It would be possible to do a quality check of the milk with the help of these instruments.
It was brought out by a statement from the TN government that milk samples from the milk unions in TN would be collected and sent to the central lab for testing the milk quality. Various standards have been set by the regulatory bodies and the consumers hereafter would be getting quality milk and milk products as per the standards set by these bodies. This would be made possible mainly due to this high tech lab. From as many as 10540 milk producer unions, Aavin procures 43 lakh litres of milk every day and the procured milk is quality tested and then sold in the outlets.
