An important residential locality in Chennai is Anna Nagar and this locality is now making news for the wrong reasons.

Now in Anna Nagar, sewage work has been going on and several roads here have been dug out and the roads are in shambles. This has been creating many issues for the residents there. When there is rain, driving through Anna Nagar east main Road has been difficult. This was as per some residents .It is known that this road connects many arterial roads.

A year back, work on augmenting the sewer line capacity on the east main road began. This was mentioned by a resident belonging to the Anna Nagar East Main Road. He added that the pipeline was supposed to be connected to the Imayam Colony sewage pumping station.

It is true that just a portion of the work has only been completed till now. This road is being used by many people in the neighbourhoods to reach various educational institutions. The residents were of the view that the roads must be re-laid atleast in those portions that have been completed and not wait for the entire work to get over.

Many issues have been responsible for the delay in the work and rains are adding to the delay. This was mentioned by some sources belonging to Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board or CMWSSB. It is important to note that deeper sewer manholes needed to be built on the 1km stretch on the East Main Road. This would take a few extra months to get completed.

A sewer line is being laid from Padi Pudhu Nagar Junction to S.M. Narayan Nagar sewage pumping station and 70% of the work has been completed till now. The reason for the delay was due to the high level water table on the Thirumangalam- Ambattur Industrial Estate Road. Improving the sewage network along the adjoining 27 streets and lowering the sewage outfalls into the Cooum River was the main objective. The officials belonging to CMWSSB then explained how the work on constructing the sewer lines on the Mogappair Road would be over before the onset of NE monsoon.
