The Chennai Railway Division is the largest on Southern Railway! Including Express trains, Electric Trains, and superfast trains, more than 300 trains are operated daily!
As the platform has not been set on the higher required level in some of the Railway Stations, the passengers are constrained to get down below on the platforms and walk. Further, in some stations, there is a 3 feet gap between the train getting in/out steps and the platform! As such, passengers are put to hardship!
In a step to resolve these constraints, the platforms in 13 Railway Stations are to be renovated in the Chennai Railway Division. In this regard, the officials of the Chennai Railway Division shared:
"Complaints were received from the passengers that there are large gaps between the train stops and the railway platform in many railway stations in Chennai Metro City.
As such, we have decided to do the renovation/reconstruction work on the 25 platforms in 13 stations on the section Egmore-Villupuram in the following railway stations: Chengalpattu, Guindy, Pazhavanthangal, Chromepet, Meenambakkam, Nungambakkam, Saidapet, Guduvancheri, Mambalam, Perungalathur, Vandalur and Tindivanam!
The height of these platforms will be increased by half-a-feet to 2 feet.
Rs. 3 Crores of funds are allotted for this project.
We have planned to complete this platform reconstruction work in 11 months!
Tenders were floated for this project on the 26th of August. The auction will be conducted from 14th September.
The contract will be finalized on 28th September.
The project will start immediately after finalizing the contract!"
