The TN transport department has decided to implement a new digital based ticketing process without any cash transaction. There are government transport corporations in places such as Villupuram, Kumbakonam, Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem & Nellai etc under the TN transport department. In addition to this, Chennai metropolitan transport corporation as well as government express transport corporations are also functioning.
Every day, as many as 1.5 crores trips are being carried out for the passengers across the state of Tamil Nadu in 26 zones through 20306 buses. For all those passengers except those who book their seats by reservations, paper tickets being issued is well known to us. There are so many issues in issuing these paper tickets for the passengers. Huge amount of money is being transacted and this has been creating many issues for the passengers as well for the conductors.
To put an end to these issues, the TN transport department has decided to implement cashless transaction of tickets for the passengers. This cashless transactions method would soon be implemented in Chennai MTC buses plus in the buses belonging to Madurai, Coimbatore etc.
An amount of Rs 86 crores would be spent for this purpose of implementing a cashless method of transaction. The tickets would be issued through QR Code based and through National Travel Common Card etc.
