In March in the year 2023, MRTS between Velachery and St Thomas Mount would be inaugurated by the chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin. This was mentioned by Mr. S. Muthuswamy, minister for urban development. It must be taken into account that in the year 2007 the construction of a 5km rail route between Velachery and St Thomas Mount began at an estimated cost of Rs 495 crores.
Construction works of railway stations in places like Puzhuthivakkam and Adambakkam near Velachery have been completed now. Others like rail routes, signal structures etc have also been completed. Land acquisition for a distance of 500m has been an issue for many years between Adambakkam and St Thomas Mount in Chennai.
The superb piece of information is that this problem has been resolved and work has been going on well. The project works that have been going on at Adambakkam were inspected by Mr. Muthuswamy, minister for urban development, Mr. T.M. Anbarasan, minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The ministers have asked the concerned authorities to complete the works as soon as possible.
It was pointed out by Mr. S. Muthuswamy that the MRTS project between Velachery and St Thomas Mount was planned to be completed in 2013 itself but issues in the land acquisitions etc has delayed the progress of the work. He added that railway stations were constructed in places like Puzhuthivakkam and Adambakkam etc and kept ready. The work IS now taking place in Adambakkam and works would be completed by March 2023.
