On the Poonamallee- Porur stretch, the metro stations construction works for the Chennai Metro Rail phase-2 would be started soon. This is a part of corridor-4 between Poonamalle and LightHouse is well known to us.
The preparatory works for the construction of metro stations has been in progress and this was revealed by some officials belonging to CMRL. Atpresent, viaduct construction is going on in full steam between Poonamallee and Porur. On this viaduct only metro train tracks would be laid and trains would be operated. Construction of the metro station in this stretch will begin soon.
According to an official from CMRL the elevated stations could be built faster than the underground ones. He added that the metro stations in the phase-2 would be compact and the works would be completed on time. For many months now, the construction of a viaduct along Porur to Power House has been going on. By late 2025 or by early 2026, the stretch between Poonamallee and Power House would get ready.
In another 3 to 4years, many localities in Chennai such as Poonamallee, Mullaithottam, Karayan chavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyappanthangal, Thelliagaram, Porur, Alapakkam, Karambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alwartirunagar,Ssaligramam and Kodambakkm would get metro train connectivity.
Now, the tunneling work have started along Madhavaram to Taramani via purasawalkam, Mylapore and Adyar and it would be going on for few years.It is noteworthy that 2 tunnel boring machines have been lowered now at Madhavaram and one of them is in operation. After some time, tunneling works would be taken up in south Chennai too.
