On Sunday, 16th October 2022, in Chennai many people took part in the mini walkathon that was organised by the Southern Regional Office of the Bureau of Indian Standards or BIS.
To create awareness regarding the standards, quality and hallmarking of different types of goods, a walkathon was held. The event witnessed many college students as well as several employees of BIS.
The event was flagged off by none other than the popular Shiny Wilson who was a former athlete from Kerala in India. Like mindedness people could be brought together plus spreading of the knowledge about various social issues etc could be possible by the walkathons.
Shiny Wilson explained that the walkathon was a superb initiative from BIS to create awareness about safety and quality assurance standards etc.
Various important standards like product certification or ISI mark, compulsory registration scheme or CRS, hallmarking of gold and silver jewellery to prove the goods quality etc must be known to various consumers. This was according to Mr. U.S.P. Yadav, Deputy Director General south BIS.
He threw light on how the walkathon would also bring out the importance of many engineers and experts who certify the goods quality. It is true that the contributions of these persons are present in every walk of life.
