Travelling on the footboards in MTC buses would soon become a thing of the past for the school and college students in Chennai!!
The news that has emerged now is that the MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has instructed its drivers and conductors to stop the bus immediately and advise the students against such travel.
According to a circularsent by the GM (Operations) of MTC, if the students did not listen to the advice of the crew then the bus driver must immediately stop the MTC bus without affecting the traffic. The crew must inform the nearest police station or call police emergency number 100 plus inform MTC headquarters also.
The circular added that it was the responsibility of the drivers and conductors of the MTC buses to ensure safe travel of the school students and college students. It must be taken into account that this circular comes amidst the video of the college students travelling on the footboard and roofs of the MTC buses in Koyambedy grade separator in Chennai.
To discourage the students from travelling on the footboards of MTC buses, the Greater Chennai police has initiated special drives etc. Police personnel have been posted near the bus stops to advise the students regarding the dangers associated with footboard travel.
