The rain water drain works are going on now in Chennai city. The GCC Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi expressed his thoughts about these works. He spoke about how due to heavy rains in the last year water did not drain out in several places in Chennai. In the last 7 to 8 months , several measures have been taken by the TN government with the help of various departments to drain out the water. He added that on behalf of GCC rain water drainage works have been carried out.
With the help from the Highways department, water drainage works are being carried out not only in the Chennai city but also in Semmencherry etc. An amount of Rs 20 crores is being spent on the behalf of the Water Resources Department of WRD also now.
The GCC Commissioner highlighted that in the last one year alone 964km of rainwater drainage works are being carried out.
At the zonal levels in Chennai, 224 km works are in progress. For these works under the Singara Chennai scheme, an amount of Rs 277 crores has been allotted by the TN govt. To carry out the rain water drainage works in several localities like Seethammal Colony, T. Nagar, Habibullah Road,GN. Chetty Road, Bazullah Road, Ashok Nagar, Mambalam, Virugambakkam, Ambedkar Salai and in Pulianthope etc , money has been allotted. The works are going on at full speed and majority of the works have been completed now.
Yesterday, the TN chief secretary made his presence felt at the GN. Chetty Road etc. He mentioned that the rainwater drainage works have been completed now. He added that the long term works have been going on. It is noteworthy that these rainwater drainage works under the Kosasthalayar and Kovalam projects are going on now in localities like Thiruvottriyur, Manali, Madhavaram etc.
