Hereafter, the anti-social persons would have to think twice before getting involved in the illegal activities!!

In Chennai, there are many grey areas along the water bodies, remote parts of the beaches and dumpyards etc and in these places many antisocial persons come gather to discuss their activities.  For the effective surveillance of these places in the city and its neighbourhoods etc, the Chennai police would be using a quick response drone wing of their own. In the next few days, the drones would be handed over by the chief minister of TN to the Police Commissioner Mr. Shankar Jaiwal.

It is worth mentioning here that the unit would have 9 long range hybrid drones( quadcopter and wing plane) of 120min of flying time anda 30km continuous flying range. In under 2 hours, the drones could fly from the Marina Beach to Neelankarai on the beach side and then come back to the base unit.

In the control unit, the video live feed would be displayed. This was mentioned by an official. The police personnel would pilot the 5kg drone capable of vertical take off and landing. As many as 18 police personnel  have now got remote pilot licenses. Being GPS enabled, the pilots would be able to  monitor their flight paths easily with the help of GPS.

It is surprising to note that areas over several hundred square kilometres in Chennai remained out of reach for the patrol teams. This was mentioned by police mapping the crime zones. Especially during the night times, patrolling could be done in the grey area of Chennai by the police department.

Not many residents in Chennai would know that fact that 10feet along the both sides of the Adyar River is a grey area. This river flows in Chennai for about 35kms is known. In the same way, the hidden bund side of Cooum River and Buckingham  Canal are also grey areas. The police officers have pointed out that the garbage dumping yards in places like Kodungaiur, Perungudi etc have been categorised as grey areas. These would be the target zones for the drones.
