Girl students in Chennai schools would have a safe and comfortable atmosphere due to this superb plan by GCC!!

For the next 3 years, as manya s 25474 students studying in the various corporation schools in Chennai would get free sanitary pads from GCC. By this, the attendance plus academic performance would become better. This was according to an officer from GCC.

It is learnt that the pilot project would be launched at the schools in places like Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar etc.

Each student would get 20 sanitary napkins for every 2 months and 100 sanitary napkins would be kept for emergency purposes at the schools. By this, the students would have access to these sanitary pads kept in the schools. Information is that GCC would be providing  26.59 lakh sanitary napkins and it would cost Rs 4.6 crores.

This would provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for the girl students in the schools. This was brought out by the deputy Mayor Mr. Mahesh Kumar. He added that the efforts of GCC would encourage many girl students to attend their schools regularly. The girl students studying in the corporation schools in Chennai are mostly from poor economic backgrounds.

It is worthy to note that this scheme would cover a total of 281 schools comprising 32 higher secondary schools, 38 high schools and 92 middle schools and 119 primary schools etc.

At the accessible places near the restrooms, the box containing sanitary pads would be kept in the school. This was according to Mr. Rajendiran, chief engineer of GCC. He spoke about the need for incinerators to burn the used up sanitary pads. The solid waste management dept would collect these sanitary pads.

A contractor has been roped in for 3 year tenure and this was mentioned by D. Sheha deputy commissioner (Education). She added that the school principal would be monitoring this important activity.
