Until the month of October 2022, 4771 dengue fever cases and 4 deaths due to dengue were reported in the state of TN. Now, the number of dengue cases have come down compared to that in November. Not only that, the extreme cases of platelet drops have also dipped. In 2021, TN recorded as many as 6039 cases of dengue and 8 dengue deaths. Likewise in 2020, 2410 dengue cases were reported and there was no death.

In the months of September and October this year, the hospitals in Chennai witnessed a huge rise in the number of dengue cases. Mostly, the kids were affected with dengue and they had severe issues like seizures, haemorrhagic strokes condition etc.

According to a  specialist in general medicine working in the emergency dept at RGGGH in Chennai, children are usually at a high risk of getting dengue fever and every day 5 to 6 dengue cases get admitted in the hospital. The doctor added that the dengue numbers have reduced now and regular cases of fever have come down.

It is true that weather changes and rains etc have helped the mosquitoes to breed fast. There is  still  a need to ensure that the precautionary steps are being taken at the hospitals regarding dengue fever but the cases have been declining.

Vice principal of SMCH in Chennai, Dr A. Jamila spoke about the declining trend in the dengue cases in December. She brought out that there are zero dengue cases in the general medicine ward and about 2 cases get reported daily at paediatric ward. It is learnt that in SMCH last month the number of dengue cases shot up in adults and now in this December there are 8 dengue cases. Especially in the community settings, there could be an outbreak and therefore the public must be careful.
