The Coronavirus pandemic that began in March in 2020 in India is not yet over!!

Now, China has been reporting many Coronavirus infection cases in recent times and this has sent shock waves all over the world. In India, steps are being taken now to control the spreading of the Coronavirus.

Now, random testing of 2% of the international passengers has started at the international airports belonging to Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy etc. Point is that all passengers arriving from foreign nations would be screened for their body temperature.

Just about a month has gone now since the random testing of 2% of the international passengers was stopped at the airports in TN as per the updated guidelines from the Union government.  Now, this random testing has resumed once again due to the increasing Coronavirus cases in many nations.

The health minister Mr. M. Subramanian explained through video conference that based on the Union ministry`s updated guidelines the airport authorities were instructed to coordinate and take samples. He added that the body temperature of all passengers would be checked and follow up measures would be taken. In TN, now less than 10 new Covid cases get reported every day and TPR is 0.2%.

It is worthy to note that TN is one amongst few states that have whole genome sequencing or WGS facility. New variants of Coronavirus infections would get detected as all the positive samples are being sent to this facility. On 22nd December, the chief minister of TN took part in a meeting of a high level committee to discuss the Coronavirus situation and preparedness etc. This was mentioned by the health minister of TN.
