To meet the increase in the demand expected due to the five fold expansion of CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, in the next couple of weeks the registration dept would be bifurcating Chennai zone. There would be 2 zones namely Chennai North district and Chennai South district and in Tambaram a new registration zone would be created.

This move of the registration dept has been appreciated by the real estate developers as it would ensure speedier grievance redressal. There are 37 revenue districts in TN and are divided into 50 registration districts. It must be noted that the Chennai zone has been divided into 5 registration districts such as  Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram and Thiruvallur districts.

The registration dept would be dividing Chennai zone into north and south soon. While north Chennai would have north, south, central zones of Chennai plus Thiruvallur district, south would consist of  Kancheepuram, Chengalpet plus the new Tambaram registration zone.

According to an official belonging to the registration dept, the  Tambaram registration zone would have 5 registration offices from the south zone like Tambaram, Selaiyur,Pallavaram,Pammal and Guduvanchery etc. Equipping the registration dept in accordance with the expanded CMDA limits would be possible by this bifurcation move. This was according to B. Jothi Nirmala Swamy, secretary, commercial taxes and registration dept.

There would be better surveillance possible by this tremendous move. This was as per another officer from the dept. He threw light about how Chennai accounted for 40% revenue generated in TN wrt property transaction and highest was from the south zone. This bifurcation would make the load to be distributed uniformly.

This move  was appluaded by Mr.S. Ramprabhu committee chairman, municipal and DTCP, BAI. He mentioned that it was a superb move at this point of time when the Chennai city and its suburbs were witnessing lots of developments.
