Be careful Chennaites!! Confiscation action or Japthi against those in Chennai who have high property tax arrears!!

The news that has come out now is that the Chennai Corporation will be taking confiscation action or Japthi Nadavadikai on those owners who have got high property tax arrears now. To begin this operation from next week onwards, consultation is being held now.

It must be noted that property tax and business tax are the 2 main sources of income for the Chennai Corporation. In the budget for the FY 2022-23, it was mentioned that Rs 800 cr would be available as property tax. Property tax was revised or increased in the state of TN is well known. Point to be noted is that due to this it was expected that the Chennai Corporation would get a property tax revenue of Rs 700 crores to Rs 1400 crores for every 6months.

There are many property owners in Chennai who have not paid their property taxes and the Chennai corporation has decided to take confication action on them.

It was mentioned by the Chennai Corporation officials that for those who pay their property taxes within the first 15 days of every half year would be given an incentive of up to Rs 5000 or 5percent.  Those owners who pay their property taxes after the 15 days would be levied with 2percent interest. The owners who have not yet paid their property taxes are being shortlisted on the website of the Chennai Corporation now.

There are now 38 persons who have to pay property tax amount of Rs 25lakhs or more, 140 persons who have to pay property tax amount of Rs 10lakhs to Rs 15lakhs and 321 persons not paid property tax amount between Rs 5lakhs to Rs 10lakhs. They all have got property arrears of Rs 66.37 crores. There are also many people who have not paid their property tax for this year and action would be taken against them.
