From this December onwards, the thermal power station located in north Chennai would be starting power generation. Now, pre-commissioning tests have been going on well. It is well known that this delayed 800MW North Chennai Critical Thermal Power Station Stage -3 is a project worth Rs 8273 crores. At present, the work on the main plant, the boiler and turbine generator, has been completed.

As per some sources from Tangedco, pre-commissioning activities like steam blowing tests are being carried out. To complete this process, BHEL has sought 60 days. It is now brought out that once steam blowing gets over then the plant would be operated to synchronise with the grid. The stage-3 unit operations would begin positively from December and this was assured by Tangedco. In February 2024, the power demand would become high across TN and Tangedco would be able to meet the power demand with the help of this.

Two big contractors BHEL and BGR Energy Systems Ltd BGRESL played a role in the execution of the Rs 8723 cr project. The procurement contract for boiler, turbine and generator or BTG package was awarded to BHEL and BGRESL was associated with the balance of plant BoP package and civil related works etc.
