The Wall Tax Road in Chennai is always associated with encroached platforms on one side and vehicles moving at a rapid pace on the other side. This has been a nightmare for the pedestrians here. Now, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation would be providing a solution for these.

It is learnt that GCC would be clearing 3km long Wall Tax Road belonging to north Chennai of encroachments and garbage. Pavements for the pedestrian would be reclaimed under the Call for Action Initiative scheme.

It is not only the squatters who have occupied the road from Central to Basin Bridge but many parcel companies also do loading and unloading on the platforms. It is known that this 3km long road is one of the historical roads that are present in Chennai. Important information is that the Wall Tax Road is surrounded by Central railway station, RGGGH, Ripon buildings & Railways office etc.

According to the GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Radhakrishnan, Wall Tax Road remains dirty and neglected. He threw light on how for the cleaning drive highways, police and railways would cooperate. It is really shocking to note that the people have been living on the pavements here for many decades now.
