In the near future, if you come across courses like gaming and animation etc offered by the engineering colleges affiliated to the Anna University or AU in Chennai, then don`t get surprised!!
Now, there are many job opportunities available across the world for these courses and that was the reason for the engineering colleges under AU to offer such new courses for the students. It is well known that these courses are available only in the deemed universities now. The courses are present as small elective subjects in few courses in AU.
As per a senior official from Higher Education dept, animation course was a highly competitive field that requires creative and tech savvy professionals. He explained how in TN animation and gaming courses were offered in few deemed universities and how the annual fees of Rs 2lakh to Rs 3.5lakhs was collected from the students. Point is that the students from poor backgrounds cannot afford such high cost courses. He concluded that from the next academic year onwards these courses would be introduced by the engg colleges affiliated to AU.
Information gathered is that the courses would be B. Tech (Computer Science and engg with specialisation in gaming) and B. Tech in (Computer Science and engg with specialisation in animation). There are chances that those students who study BSc in Computer Science might also study animation and gaming in their bachelor degree.
For preparing the syllabus for animation and gaming courses, the Higher Education Dept would assess thoroughly through the views of various academicians, experts and students etc.
