Great news!! Up-gradation of Madras University or MU as a Category-1!!

Following an improved rating by NAAC or National Assessment and Accreditation Council, UGC or University Grants Commission has upgraded Madras University or MU. In the previous cycle, MU received a score of 3.32 but now MU has received a score of 3.59.
The UGC in its communication to MU has mentioned that MU is now eligible to be enlisted as a Category 1 university under the UGC (Categorisation of universities only for grant of graded autonomy) regulations 2018.
It was brought out by an official from MU that the Madras University has become one of the few state universities with Category-1 status. The MU could offer any degrees without prior permission from the UGC and MU is now eligible for Rs 100 cr funding.
