In the future, CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area would be expanding 5 times. Now, CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development authority has embarked on an ambitious plan of creating self sustaining and holistic neighbourhoods.
The CMA limits would increase from1189 to 5904 square kilometres with many suburban places such as Gummidipoondi, Arakonnam, Thiruthani, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Mahabalipuram etc coming into the CMA fold. It is now said that an economic study would be carried out by the CMDA and with that new localities would be built with better living conditions in various sectors such as health, education, lifestyle, infra, employment, connectivity etc. Sound`s incredible right!!
The study would be carried out under the title `Sustainable Economic Growth Strategic Plan in Chennai Metropolitan Area. In this regard, CMA floated tenders last week to appoint a consultant.
The study would be carried out for about 24 weeks with the help of experts in economy, urban planning and data. Point is that the study would identify potential locations for creation of newer industries in several sectors such as automobile, real estate. ITES, power etc. By this, there would be increased availability of localised jobs.
It must be taken into account that the study would also identify scope for potential recreational activities like nightlife, street life plus other leisure activities such as walking etc. In addition to these, the study would gather information about the jobs of the people residing in the CMA. The study would help in the strengthening of the 6 satellite towns that are in the pipeline in the expanded CMA areas.
