Chennai is known for its traffic snarls. Residents often face issues due to the heavy traffic congestion. In the future, the residents would be able to avoid this heavy traffic congestion issue. Thanks to TIDCO!!

It is revealed that TIDCO has commenced discussions to develop Urban Air Mobility or UAM ecosystem in Chennai. On Thursday, 6th June 2024 a workshop was conducted on UAM in Chennai.

It was later mentioned by an officer belonging to TIDCO that the objective was to hold discussions on the development of the UAM ecosystem. This would enable drone and short haul air transport operators to successfully provide urban air transport to the Greater Chennai Metropolitan Area or CMA. Point to be noted is that TIDCO is a state govt agency that oversees industrial growth in TN.

Who all took part in the discussion?

Information gathered is that representatives from Boeing`s Research and Technology, IIT-M, GCTP or Greater Chennai Traffic Police, Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority or CUMTA, AAI or Airport Authority of India, TNUAV or Tamil Nadu Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Corporation, TNMSC or Tamil Nadu Medical Supplies Corporation took part in the discussions.

The Chennai city crowd has become denser and as a result there is now more need for hyper-mobility. This was pointed out by MD of TIDCO, Mr. Sandeep Nanduri.

As per the project director of TIDCO, it was clear that Chennai would become the first successful city to implement the UAM program. He added that communication, navigation and surveillance etc were also discussed.

UAM system in a phased manner:

The UAM system would have to be executed in a phased manner. Road map would be developed for a fully functional UAM system and there would be creation of vertiports. It must be noted that vertiports is a Unified Traffic Management supported by CNS for communication, navigation and surveillance.

According to the TN industries minister Mr. TRB. Rajaa, UAM would be the norm shortly. He mentioned that Chennai would see a brand new skyline in the future. He concluded that smart mobility would be the key for its avatar as the modern booming mega metropolitan city.
