Reopening of Schools in Tamil Nadu Sparks Rush in Bus and Train Services

Posted on: 07/Jun/2024 11:59:44 AM

The reopening of schools in Tamil Nadu has led to a significant increase in bus and train traffic as students return to Chennai after the summer holidays. Originally scheduled for June 6, the reopening was postponed to June 10 due to extreme summer heat following the parliamentary election results announcement on June 4.

During the summer break, many students from Chennai traveled to their hometowns across Tamil Nadu. To accommodate the influx of returning students, the State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) will operate 705 special buses on June 9, with additional services as needed from various regions. This has caused a surge in passenger numbers on both government and private buses, as well as overcrowding in unreserved train compartments.
