Sensational development regarding Global Sports City that will transform OMR in Chennai!!
The news that has come out now is that CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority has invited tenders to select a consultant to conduct a techno economic feasibility report and provide transaction advisory services for the development of the facility. In future, the Global Sports City would be expected to transform Semmencherry and OMR. In March 2023, the facility was announced is known.
The real estate developers were of the view that the locality would see a huge development in the real estate. The infrastructure in the interior parts of OMR must be improved.
What is Global Sports City?
About 28kms from Chennai, behind the famous Sathyabhama University, Global Sports City would be constructed on a vast land of 100 acres. It is learnt that this sports city would be developed as a self contained facility and would have facilities on par with global standards. This Global Sports City would create an ecosystem catering to the athletes, coaches, support staff etc.
There would be a wide range of facilities present in the global sports city like stadiums, arenas, training grounds and sports academies etc. From local competitions to international tournaments, all sports events would be hosted. This was mentioned by an official from CMDA. He added that the economy would get boosted and many tourists would get attracted etc.
It is now said that the consultant would visualise supportive developments in the hospitality and tourism sectors and commercial and retail developments. By this, the viability of the facility would be improved. The consultant would study the access routes to the sports city from OMR. By this, there would be connectivity with the proposed grid of roads planned by CMDA.
There would be preparation of a flood mitigation plan also. The landscape here would have sponge parks etc that would absorb maximum surface runoff and would prevent flooding.
