Injuries due to burns especially can be extremely painful and unbearable.

People must be very careful while bursting crackers during diwali festival to avoid burn injuries.

Yesterday, TN Health minister Mr. M. Subramaniam made his presence felt at Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital or KMCH in Chennai. He inspected the special burns ward with 25 beds. He spoke about how there must not be any firecrackers injuries. The special burns ward at KMCH would have 25 beds (12 for men, 8 for women and 5 for children).

The health minister later revealed that in the last 2 years burn injuries were treated immediately in this ward and fatalities were prevented. It is noteworthy that in the beginning KMCH had just 2 beds for burn injuries but the number of beds increased to 75.

Not many would be aware of the fact that every year in KMCH more than 2000 cases of injuries caused by acid, flames, crackers and chemicals etc get treatment.

Awareness programme:

It must be noted that an awareness programme was conducted for the residents regarding handling fire crackers in a safe manner. In this aspect, the public have been advised not to take selfies while burning the firecrackers as it would be very dangerous.

The govt hospitals with burns wards in TN are ready to treat persons with burns injury during deepavali and this despite creating awareness among the public regarding handling firecrackers and burn injuries etc. Point is that all the doctors, nurses etc would work round the clock to treat emergency cases.
