During the monsoon season, this place gets flooded and the residents here face lots of problems is known.
Now, the residents belonging to Tansi Nagar have gone one step ahead and they have purchased 3 rubber boats, lifebuoy and safety jackets etc on their own to prepare for the future floods in the monsoon season. In Velachery recently, the first spell of monsoon caused floods is well known to us.
Bitter fact is that Velachery is the first locality in Chennai that faces severe flooding issues during NE monsoons etc. It was later pointed out by some residents here that the GCC sends 25 boats and it would take more than half an hour for them to return and pick up other residents.
Mr. M. Balakrishnan, secretary of Tansi Nagar Welfare Association in Velachery spoke about how flooding has been a never ending problem during the monsoon season. He added that 3 boats have been purchased till now and 10 volunteers would take the residents in the boats to safer places.
He hinted that in the future additional boats might also be purchased. For buying 3 rubber boats, the residents have spent Rs 15000. More money would be spent by the locals here for buying some more rubber boats when required. It is important to mention that arrangements have been made to supply milk and drinking water for the residents during floods.
