Chennai has been brimming with traffic and the residents finding it very difficult to move is well known to us.
The sensational piece of information that has come out is that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has announced its plans to shift hundreds of bus stops that are located near the traffic signals and flyovers etc to 100 metres away.
To identify the spots to shift the bus stops, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has already begun surveys. It is now brought out that in the first phase those bus stops along the Broadway- Mogappair and Vadapalani- Taramani routes would be shifted. These routes have been chosen now because of heavy traffic congestion in them.
Point to be noted here is that for more than 30 years bus stops in Chennai have not been shifted. To facilitate smooth flow of traffic, the authorities have now decided to shift the bus stops at regular intervals. As per a report it was clear that the preliminary study about the relocation of bus stops in Chennai have already been submitted to the GCC.
