By the month of April in 2025, the railway station works at Kilambakkam would be completed. This was according to the railway administration.
It must be recalled that to reduce traffic congestion in Chennai a new bus terminus was constructed at a cost of Rs 394 cr at Kilambakkam near Vandalur in south Chennai. It was opened to the public in January. The new bus terminus has been constructed in such a way that it could accommodate one lakh passengers
Some time back, a request was placed to set up a railway station at Kilambakkam along Tambaram- Chengalpet route to help the passengers coming and going to the new bus terminus. Connecting suburban trains with the bus terminus was also considered. In this regard, it was decided to construct a railway station at Kilambakkam between Orapakkam and Vandalur at an estimated cost of Rs 20 cr.
Later on, a contract was awarded and work began at Kilambakkam for setting up of a railway station. It must be taken into account that this railway station is located 500m from the Kelambakkam bus terminus. The passengers have complained that the works regarding the railway station at Kilambakkam have been going on slowly. The passengers want the station works to be completed fast. In this scenario, the railway administration has decided to complete the works by April month.
It was mentioned by some officials belonging to the Chennai division of railways that work is going on now to build a railway station at Kilambakkam at a cost of Rs 20 cr. They added that basic facilities like 3 platforms, station manager`s room, ticket office, parking, CCTV cameras, footbridge and escalators etc would be set up. To construct a platform, soil is being filled up. Construction works would go on. Point is that while the work is going on electricity and roofing facilities would be provided.
