If you have been to places like Kaladipet and Tiruvottriyur etc in north Chennai, then you would have come across damaged street light poles there.

In Tiruvottriyur in the Zone 1, the GCC would soon be replacing these dilapadated street light poles. About 90 of them would be replaced. A tender has been floated regarding this. An amount of Rs 38.62 lakhs has been allocated for this work. It is now revealed that the decision regarding replacing the damaged street light poles was taken in the anticipation of heavy monsoon rains.

It is shocking to note that across Chennai many street light poles are now in damaged condition only. As a result, the streets are almost in darkness now and this has been creating few issues for the public.

In the Thilagar Nagar in Kaladipet and its nearby areas, around 37 street light poles have not been changed for a long time.

Point is that GCC has floated a tender for Rs 14.05 lakhs based on the inspection carried out by the officials. According to a tender report from GCC it was confirmed that Sakthi Ganapathy Nagar would also get 27 street light poles at a cost of Rs 10.73 lakhs.

An amount of Rs 13.83 lakhs has been allotted to replace 30 damaged street light poles in Major Saravanan Road and in Kargil Nagar etc. The residents spoke about how the locality becomes pitch dark at the night time in the absence of street lights. Information collected is that 19th of December is the last date of submitting of the tender.

The mishaps that would occur during the monsoon season would be prevented by replacing the street light poles in the localities.
