Normally, Chennai would be hot and humid and the residents have got used to that type of weather condition. In the last few days, Chennai has been colder and the residents are finding it difficult.

It is revealed that the cloudy skies coupled with rainfall have brought the temperature down by 4 degrees Celsius in Chennai.

On Wednesday morning, the temperature was 29.1 degrees Celsius and by night the temperature dropped down to 25.3 degrees, which was 3.8 degrees Celsius. The change in the wind pattern might decrease the temperature further in the coming days in Chennai. This was according to some weather officials.

Yesterday, the low pressure area present over the south west Bay of Bengal has transformed into a well marked low pressure area over the same region. During the next 24 hours, the low pressure is likely to move north-westwards towards northern TN and south of Andhra Pradesh.

On Wednesday, many parts belonging to Chennai and its nearby places witnessed light to moderate rains and this is likely to continue for the next 24 hours also. The rainfall activity would reduce if the current weather system moves above TN. It is noteworthy that Chennai was cold in the early hours on Wednesday morning that led to the drop in the maximum temperature. The northerly wind and cloudy skies lowered the temperature to 25 degrees Celsius yesterday in the city.

According to Mr. P. Senthamarai Kannan, director of Area Cyclone Centre of RMC, the drop in the temperature was not abnormal. He hinted that from tomorrow 20thh of December the maximum and minimum temperatures would go down further by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in Chennai.

At the Nungambakkam weather station and at the Meenambakkam weather station for the next 24 hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26-27 degrees and 23-24 degrees respectively. In the coming days, Chennai might receive light to moderate rains in some places. It is really amazing to note that while the temperature in Chennai reduced yesterday the temperature in Madurai increased around 5 degrees Celsius making the city hotter.
