How should a railway station that serves so many passengers every day be? It should have basic infrastructural facilities, right!!

On the western suburbs route, Avadi railway station is one of the busiest railway stations and it serves lakhs of passengers daily is a well known fact. The issue at this Avadi railway station now (that has been facing many basic infrastructural issues) is about construction of an escalator. The work regarding this has been going on for a year now. This delayed work on escalator construction here has angered many senior citizens, differently abled persons, pregnant women etc. These persons are finding it difficult without escalators here and they have been forced to use stairs to access platforms.

It is worthy to note that Avadi railway station has 5 platforms and a steep FOB or foot over bridge. It is known that about a year back, 3 escalators were installed in the first, second and fourth platforms here. The absence of an escalator facility at the Avadi railway station has led to serious accessibility issues for many regular passengers, senior persons and other persons with physical issues etc.

It was brought to light by Retired Army Major from Annanur that he got severe leg pain while climbing stairs at the Avadi railway station as he didn`t have any other option.  According to another regular passenger escalator construction work was completed in the first and fourth platform but escalator work at the second platform was not completed. Pot is that using steep stairs was very tough for senior citizens and differently able persons etc.

According to an official from Southern Railways it was clear that pending works would be finished within a week and the inauguration has been scheduled in the second week of February.
