There are open lands of 5895 sq m present in 5 zones like Teynampet or zone 9, Kodambakkam or zone 10, Valsarawakkam or zone 11, Alandur or zone 12 and Sholinganallur or zone 15.
Now, GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has taken an important decision of handing over these open lands in the above-mentioned zones to CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited to undertake its works.
Some important conditions have been laid by GCC before they hand over the land to CMRL. The conditions are implementation of appropriate safety steps during CMRL project work in the respective area to avoid public inconvenience and safety, removing debris promptly, fixing potholes on the roads etc.
It must be taken into account that once the conditions put by GCC were agreed by CMRL then the land committee fixed a valuation for the land. Financial arrangements were ordered to transfer lands to CMRL On Thursday, a council meeting took place and the above was approved by the Mayor.
Information collected is that the amount for open lands has been calculated based on the land value of more than Rs 300 cr in many places in 5 zones in Chennai.
