In the future, the patients from north Chennai visiting the General Hospital located in Periyar Nagar in Perambur would not be referred to other hospitals for the sake of better treatment. By this, time wasted in referral as well as workloads of other hospitals would get reduced.
It is known that this GH in Perambur has a footfall of 600 inpatients and more than 5000 outpatients visit the departments such as obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, neurology, oncology, urology and others etc.
The sensational piece of information is that the General Hospital in Periyar Nagar in north Chennai would operate with all the facilities from 28th of February and it would be on par with other medical college hospitals in Chennai.
It is noteworthy that under north Chennai Development Project health minister Mr. M. Subramanian and minister for HR & CE Mr. P.D. Sekarbabu has handed over a cheque of Rs 84.17 crore to the TN Medical Services Corporation to procure medical equipment for Periyar Nagar Govt hospital.
It must be recalled that in May 2021 this govt hospital that had just 100 beds was upgraded to 300 bed hospital. Not only that, a new building is being constructed for Rs 71.81 crores under the World Bank project. Point is that medical equipment would be provided when the hospital is upgraded into an 860 bed facility. On 28th of February, the new building would be opened by the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin.
Various facilities in the new building:
There would be important facilities like cardiology, accident and emergency departments, ICU, dialysis, blood bank plus others like MRI, AC pat wards, central sterile services dept, 5 elevators, modern laundry, central pharmacy, central laboratory and a help desk in the newly constructed building .
Information gathered is that a total of 803 staff including 102 doctors, 236 nurses, 79 non-medical staff, 20 ministerial staff, 126 multi-disciplinary staff and 240 sanitation staff etc would be appointed
