The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) is finalizing a Detailed Development Plan (DDP) to enhance infrastructure along the 62-km Outer Ring Road (ORR), anticipating an 80% population increase in the corridor.
Key Development Areas
CMDA has identified four strategic zones for economic growth:
Minjur – Industrial, logistics, and port-based development.
Red Hills – A Green Zone with urban forests, waterfronts, and eco-friendly industries.
Poonamallee – A business district for commercial and corporate activities.
Vandalur – A mixed-use hub for IT, MSMEs, and residential-commercial spaces.
Land Use & Infrastructure Planning
- A 1-km land use plan along ORR is under review, with sector-wise development mapped.
- e-Auction of plots is set for next month.
- Infrastructure to include IT parks, logistics hubs, MSME clusters, R&D centers, and warehousing.
Land Pooling for Urban Expansion
CMDA has identified 10 land pooling pockets to consolidate land from multiple owners, ensuring planned urban growth. The DDP is under review and will guide the project’s next steps.
