Chennai city has got many parks and in these parks both young as well as senor persons could relax.
One important question now is that are these parks serving the purpose for which they were set up?
The bitter truth is that parks have been in bad conditions with damaged footpaths, faulty play equipment for the kids and inadequate care of the lawn etc. Moreover, the poor maintenance of these parks has made the parks a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
It was brought to light by a resident from Mugalivakkam that a park present in the AGS Colony phase 3 in ward 156 in the Alandur zone is in poor shape now. He spoke about how the lack of maintenance of this park after NE monsoon was the main reason for its poor condition now.
The shocking truth is that due to the damaged footpaths in this park both seniors as well as the kids have stumbled and fallen down. Therefore, the Chennai Corporation must sweep the park every day. In addition, the fountain was also not maintained properly in this park.
The park that is present in Anand Nagar at Thoraipakkam has not been maintained properly by the Chennai Corporation. This was pointed out by Mr. A. Francis, president of the Federation of Thoraipakkam Welfare Association. He mentioned that during NE monsoon there was heavy water stagnation at this park for many days and the equipment got damaged. He added that the children`s play area was also damaged. Here, after the private contractor`s tenure came to an end the park has not been maintained properly for the last few months.
The Gandhi Park present in the Anna Nagar west extension was in bad condition with footpaths and compound walls damaged. This was according to a resident from Anna Nagar. For the last 4 months, this park has not been maintained properly as the tenure of the private contractor has ended.
According to an officer belonging to the Chennai Corporation the civic body has been planning to start a centralised maintenance of parks to restore the facilities in all the zones.
