Based on the population count or census taken in 2011, photographs for the issue of Aadhar cards is almost complete - it is 95 percent.
The responsibility of taking the photographs for the balance people has been entrusted to the Tamil Nadu State Government’s Cable TV Company. This responsibility was handed over to Government Cable TV Company and ELCOT on 1st October.
The photograph-taking activity for Aadhar cards resumed today (Wednesday, 5th October) in 371 places throughout Tamil Nadu.
Photographs are being taken in 285 Taluk Offices, Chennai Corporation Ripon Building, 15 Regional Offices, Secretariat, Ezhilagam, and other places, In Chennai , photographs are being taken in 65 places.
Mr. J. Kumaragurubaran, The Managing Director of Government cable TV company and Director of E-governance movement, explained in a session with the press reporters that the e-service centres of the Government cable TV company will function on all days of the week except the government holidays.
Mobile squads will be sent to schools and colleges. A separate Aadhar card will be given for children above 5 years of age. Photographs may be taken for even children under 5 years of age but this photo will be linked to the parents Aadhar card numbers.
The facility to fill up details online for Aadhar cards is set to be introduced shortly. Once the applications for Aadhar card is sent online, SMS will be sent to the cell phone of the applicant regarding the dates for taking photographs. The applicant may visit the e-service centre on that day and get the photograph taken without any long waiting.
