Additional loads of fruits arrive in Koyambedu for Ayudha Pooja festival

As the festival of Ayudha Pooja nears, loads of fruits arriving in the Chennai Koyambedu vegetables/fruits/flowers market have increased. It has been a long tradition to celebrate Ayudha pooja in the houses, offices, factories, and academic institutions. The items used while performing the special pooja include apple, sweet lime, bananas flat rice, and puffed rice.

Ayudha Pooja this year falls on 29th September. For this special occasions, a variety of fruits including apple, orange, pear, and grapes are arriving in large loads through ships from other countries.

Sweet limes from Andhra, orange from Maharashtra, bananas from Kerala, apples from Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir arrive for the pooja. Several state traders buy these fruits on wholesale. As the harvest of apple and sweet lime this year is normal, the traders informed that there are no possibilities for the prices to go up.

On retail sales, 1 kg of Indian apple is sold at Rs. 80 to Rs. 100. Sweet lime and orange are sold at Rs. 40 to Rs. 50 per kg.

The wholesale fruit traders at the Chennai Koyambedu market informed that extra loads of fruits will arrive.
