The half-yearly examinations for the students in the government high schools get completed tomorrow (Saturday, 23rd December). In most of the private schools, the half-yearly examinations get completed today (Friday, 22nd December).
The half-yearly vacation regularly begins with Christmas and ends with the New Year. It is routine for the schools to reopen on 2nd January.
With a 10-day holiday period for the children, most parents would be planning a trip to their native places.
As all the regular trains are already full, there is a long waiting list, There are no seats even in the special trains.
With trains being already full, the public depends on the bus services. However, seats have been booked in all the express buses as well. So, the next resort is the omnibus. The omnibus operators have a roaring business with the crowd of passengers and charge them many times more than the normal fare.
All the omnibuses proceeding south of the state are fast filling up.
Having known that there are no seats in the government buses, the omnibus fares have been increased further.
As omnibuses get filled, people depend again on the government buses.

With the 3 successive holidays (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday – Christmas), and the private and public sector employees set for travel, crowds were selling in the bus stations.
There was a very long queue for the travel in unreserved compartments in the Egmore Railway Station.
Crowds are expected to be swelling in the Koyambedu bus stand and the omnibus terminus this evening.
With the large number crowd set to travel, all the bus stations and railway stations have started wearing festive looks.
