It is known that in Chennai many people travel by MTC buses to reach their destination. The shocking news that has emerged now is Metropolitan Transport Corporation or MTC of Chennai has stopped issuing monthly bus passes to the passengers. Not only that the MTC has stopped buses on certain routes and this has created more problems for the passengers.
The route between Thiruvanmiyur and Perambur is very important in Chennai and many people travel in this route using bus number 29C. Now MTC has stopped giving monthly bus passes to those who use this route. MTC has also stopped bus service in another important route between Perambur and MMDA Mathur. It is known that people catch the bus number 164 to travel in this route.
Recently there was bus fares hike in the state of TN and this led to many issues for the public. There were many protests against the bus fare hike and MTC had decided to convert express buses to ordinary buses for the sake of people. It is worthy to note that MTC cut down the services of ordinary buses and also stopped buses on those routes that were not economical for them.
Mr R.S. Babu secretary of Mathur MMDA resident’s welfare association expressed his thoughts and spoke about the importance of bus route 164 that connected his place to Perambur. He also spoke about how this Perambur bus terminus served as switch over point.
Mr Chandrasekaran belonging to Thiruvanmiyur shared his thoughts regarding the MTC’s decision and said all the 6 buses that run along the extended route of 29C are express buses. He also spoke about how stopping of ordinary 29C bus services have been creating problems for those who travel in these buses regularly. It is known that this 29C connects south Chennai to industrial places in north Chennai.
Mr .Chandrasekaran also highlighted how travellers using this 29C are shelling out more for the tickets now than in the past. He also spoke about how the authorities in the bus depot refused to issue monthly bus passes in this bur route.
It is important to note that Mr Vijayabhaskar who is the minister for state transport informed that passes were stopped just temporarily only and depots would be issuing the passes soon.
Mr. Rengachari who is a retired government official shared his views on this and said MTC was overcharging the passengers by not giving daily bus passes under Travel As You Please Ticket Scheme or TAYPT scheme.
