Restoration of lakes in Chennai, corporate companies, banks etc roped in

On Tuesday, a meeting took place between GCC officials, collector and the representatives of many corporate companies and banks etc. It was proposed in the meeting that corporate companies and banks must take up the restoration of the lakes in Chennai under their Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR activities.

As per the officials of the GCC, it was clear that many representatives from corporate companies like T.I. Cycles, CTS, Philips, IOC, TVS. Motors, representatives from public sector banks like SBI, IOB and other private banks took part in the above said meeting.

Many companies would come forward for the restoration of lakes in Chennai and this was as per senior corporation official. Inside the Chennai city limits, there are as many as 210 water bodies are known. It is now said that out of 210 restoration work is in the finishing stage in 60 water bodies.

Information is these water bodies are spread across Perungudi, Sholnganallur and Madhavaram zones. Before the ensuing monsoon, various works undertaken by the civic body to complete the restoration of the water bodies was pointed out by Mr. G. Prakash, corporation commissioner. He threw light on how DPR has been prepared for the restoration of as many as 90 water bodies through TWIC or Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company.

Point to be taken into account is children’s park, lawns, seating facilities, drinking water facilities, LED lightings etc would also be provided while carrying out the restoration work of the water bodies. The main objective behind was to make the people use water bodies as public space so that there is less chance of encroachment. Civic body has been taking huge efforts on the sanitation front is known. Corporation officials and volunteers were involved in the collection of 3.5 metric tonnes of garbage from Porur Lake in the last week.
