The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) will have the first test run of the new train that has arrived from Sao Paolo in Brazil in August. The test runs will be held at Koyambedu, which is a station that also serves as a depot.
Engineers who will conduct the runs are extremely excited about the start of the test runs. The new train was ‘unwrapped’ on Tuesday. ‘Chennaiites would get to see the city’s first metro rail criss-cross Koyambedu and St Thomas Mount on the elevated corridor. Meanwhile, the track and electrification works are being expedited on Koyambedu-St Thomas Mount stretch to keep the overhead stretch ready for trial run upon completion of test run in the depot… It is mandatory to test run the train for 1,600 km before declaring it fit for commercial operation’, said a CMRL official.
