Ensuring sustainability would not be an issue hereafter in Anna Nagar in Chennai!!

Environmentalists Foundation of India or EFI has now brought huge hope regarding sustainability with the announcement about a new eco-park in this locality.

Mr. Arun Krishnamurthy of EFI expressed his views. He spoke about how EFI has joined hands with GCC to restore lakes plus adoption of freshwater lakes. Chennai city is being prepared for climate action. He threw light on how the abandoned government land patches have been taken up for cleaning, replenishing and growing vegetation etc.

It must be noted that the project named Kanagam or a thriving forest is a collaborative effort under GCC Namakku Naame scheme. As per D. Sneha, deputy commissioner education it was clear that the scheme allows for public contribution and involvement in projects for building public infrastructure. These include parks, smart classes and footpaths also. This Kanagam would soon be home to many native trees.

Split into forest cover and sports areas, Kanagam would occupy approximately 3 acres of land. Seventy percent of land would have forest cover and the remaining 30percent would have a sports area. The park would have areas for volleyball, football and walking space and rainwater harvesting structures would also be there. It is superb to note that for developing the eco-park at Anna Nagar both private as well as public sectors are associating with each other and it would be unique. The public would be allowed to participate by volunteering or by maintaining the structures etc.

Deputy Commissioner D. Sneha explained that the neighborhood near Koyambedu Metro Docking Yard where the eco-park is being built would get benefited superbly. This place does not have any playgrounds but just many residential buildings only. Information collected is that the eco-park in Anna Nagar might be reopened on Independence Day.
