This news would make many shop owners in Ritchie Street in Chennai shocked!!

As many as 4000 shops in the famous Ritchie street in Chennai have been operating without a business license. It is now said that the GCC would be stealing these shops soon. It is known that the Chennai Corporation has already given enough time to these shop owners to get the business licence. There are 3 major revenues for the GCC such as property tax, business licence and business tax. The Chennai Corporation is trying its best to increase its revenue.

The property tax is being revised using the drones by surveying those buildings that have been constructed beyond the limits. This has increased the revenue due to the property tax to a huge extent now. As another part of increasing the revenue, the Chennai Corporation has been advising the unlicensed shop owners to get their business licences from the corporation plus collecting business taxes from the shop owners etc.

It was brought to light by an investigation carried out by the Revenue Department belonging to the Chennai Corporation that about 4000 shops have been functioning without a business license in the Ritchie Street in Anna Salai. Point is that this comes under the Royapuram zone.
