The Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has announced the discontinuation of monthly parking passes at metro stations due to the rising demand for parking spaces. Effective February 1, 2025, parking will be available strictly on a first-come, first-served basis. However, passes purchased in January 2025 will remain valid until their expiry.
Additionally, CMRL is set to phase out CMRL Travel Card top-up services at ticket counters in a gradual shift towards the Singara Chennai Card – National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), introduced on April 14, 2023. From April 1, 2025, CMRL will fully transition to the NCMC card, discontinuing the top-up facility for the older Contactless Smart Cards (CSC).
In the first phase, top-up services will be halted at New Washermanpet, Kaladipet, Thiruvotriyur Theradi, Thiruvotriyur, Nandanam, Little Mount, OTA – Nanganallur Road, Meenambakkam, Egmore, Kilpauk, and Shenoy Nagar metro stations.
Passengers are advised to use the remaining balance in their CMRL Travel Cards for metro rides or parking before the transition is completed across all 41 metro stations. For continued metro travel, commuters should switch to the Singara Chennai Card, available at metro stations.
For further updates, passengers can visit the official CMRL website or contact metro station staff.
