The long-awaited railway flyover at Singaperumal Koil is finally being inaugurated today after 16 years of construction. According to a Thanthi TV report, residents and commuters in the area are overjoyed, as this project has been a long-pending demand.
Initially, the Highways Department had planned to complete and inaugurate the flyover by December 2024. However, with the work nearing completion, authorities decided to open it ahead of schedule. This flyover is expected to reduce traffic congestion and provide a smoother commute for thousands of daily travelers.
A Much-Needed Relief for Commuters
Singaperumal Koil town has over 30 villages, and thousands of people travel through this stretch daily. The National Highway (NH) near the railway crossing often witnessed bumper-to-bumper traffic, with vehicles piling up for up to 2 kilometers.
The Singaperumal Koil-Sriperumbudur Road is a key arterial route, connecting commuters to Oragadam SIPCOT and other industrial hubs. The railway crossing, which remained closed for extended hours to allow express trains to pass, added to the congestion. With the flyover now operational, traffic movement is expected to improve significantly, easing the daily struggles of commuters.
