Chennai Corporation to Outsource Beach Cleaning for Better Waste Management

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has decided to outsource solid waste management and litter control at major city beaches, including Marina, Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur, Pattinapakkam, and Pudu Beach in Manali.
As part of the initiative, heavy-duty mechanical sweepers will be deployed for cleanup, while All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) will monitor garbage dumping and illegal encroachments at Marina and Besant Nagar beaches.
With Chennai generating over 6,000 MT of waste daily, this privatization move aims to improve cleanliness, reduce litter, and enhance public health. The GCC will oversee private contractors to ensure compliance with waste management standards.
