In an effort to ease traffic congestion in Tambaram, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) has announced the launch of additional bus services from the Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam, starting Tuesday, March 4.
This decision follows the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation’s (TNSTC) move to terminate long-distance buses at Kilambakkam instead of Tambaram, particularly those operating via Chengalpattu and Tindivanam. The change was recommended by the Tambaram City Traffic Police to manage increasing vehicular congestion in the area.
With this new arrangement, long-distance buses from the southern districts will no longer enter Tambaram but will instead terminate their journey at Kilambakkam, which serves as Chennai’s integrated transport hub.
To ensure smooth connectivity for commuters, MTC currently operates 589 buses on 80 routes, covering 3,795 trips daily. To accommodate the expected rise in commuter demand, an additional 104 buses will be introduced, adding 816 more trips across Chennai.
Passengers are encouraged to utilize the expanded MTC services for a seamless and efficient travel experience across the city.
