Point is that a total of 19053 students have enrolled in English medium stream and 72646 have enrolled in Tamil medium stream. It was revealed by some teachers that there has been a decrease in the admission in the Tamil medium stream.
As per a parent it was clear that enrolling the kids in English medium stream would place the kids on par with those in CBSE or other schools. It was explained by a teacher from government school in Ashok Nagar that no requests were made enrolling the kids in the Tamil medium. The teacher added that not only opportunities would be more for an English medium student but preparing for competitive exams would also be easier. It must be taken into account that all the excellent materials related to exam preparations were available in English only.
According to a government school teacher in Tiruvottiyur, the admissions would pick up once the examinations get completed. For the past 10 years, the demand has been for the English medium of instruction only. There has been a decrease in the Tamil medium student`s strength in this school.
The subject must be taught properly and in that case even if the medium of instruction is in Tamil the parents would still be satisfied. This was mentioned by none other than Mr. P.B. Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary of State Platform for Common School System or SPCSS- TN. He spoke about how the subject was not taught properly and due to this reason the parents prefer English medium schools for their kid.
A campaign has been going on to admit the students in the Tamil medium stream school in Mogappair. The school teacher who has been involved in the campaign spoke about how it was necessary to learn the mother tongue.
