BBC slews focus on India

BBC Global News, for the very first time, is set ready to cover the beginning phases of general elections and take it online live from India. Reporting about the idea, chief executive of BBC Global News, Jim Egan stated that Lok Sabha elections in India are the centre of attention globally now. India has a huge year this time and the elections have developed special interest across the world. Our news should comply with Indian audiences as well as global ones with a dual focus every time.
The channel is already receiving regular news inputs through sources like India Business Report. Recently, Stephen Sackur, a BBC journalist interviewed major politicians of India including Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram. Additionally, the channel also broadcasted a special program on Indian technology, culture and sports. Speaking to Egan, he said India is a vast country with diversified aspects. We want multitudinous facets of the country to be programmed in our channel, he added.
