Official sources said on Tuesday that the Election Commission (EC) is considering May 14 as the best possible date. Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and Election Commissioners AK Joti and OP Rawat arrived in Chennai on Tuesday to review arrangements being made for elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

The commissioners were to hold discussions on the dates with representatives of political parties, state civil and police officers, district election officers, district magistrates, SSPs and enforcement agencies before the dates are announced.

Zaidi will be heading the all-party meeting on Wednesday and tomorrow, there will be another meeting with Income-Tax officers and secretaries.

On Monday there was a round of discussions among the political parties, EC, collectors and Chennai Corporation officials about the preparations in Tamil Nadu.

If elections are held on May 14, counting will take place on May 18. Results will be available the same day. The current assembly expires on May 22.
